Pupils at Eden Girls’ Leadership Academy, Birmingham have been busy spreading kindness and joy over the festive period.

As part of the school’s annual Festive Winter Gift Programme, pupils have been taking part in charity collections and activities to offer support to people experiencing hardship.

Staff and pupils launched a shoebox appeal supporting their chosen UK-based charity, Migrant Help, to help bring warmth and comfort to those most in need this winter.

Enthusiastic pupils took on the task of transforming a shoebox into a gift box full of treats. Boxes filled with items of warm clothing, toiletries, masks, toys, sweets and chocolates were wrapped up and delivered to local migrant families.

Eden Girls’ Leadership Academy also joined with other Star Academies schools to take part in ‘Food for All Week’. From 7th to 13th December, all 29 schools across the Star Academies multi-academy trust distributed 50,000 food parcels and meals to those experiencing food poverty.

Generous pupils, parents and staff worked together to collect food items to distribute to the homeless and those who were struggling as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Pupils also made a special effort to reach out to elderly and vulnerable members of their community.

The school was filled with activity as form groups teamed up to create two hampers each. Donations of hygiene products and warm clothes were gathered to fill their ‘pamper hampers’ as well as a second hamper of treats and gifts for the residents at Bromford Lane Care Centre.

Famida Rawoot, Principal at Eden Girls’ Leadership Academy, Birmingham, praised pupils and staff for their kindness and thanked parents for supporting the campaign.

She said: “This year has been a very difficult year for many, but our caring pupils, parents and staff have worked tremendously hard to make peoples’ lives a little brighter.

“Through their incredible generosity, our pupils have demonstrated that even the smallest acts of kindness can go a long way.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported our Festive Winter Gift Programme and helped us to make a positive difference to the lives of so many others.”
