Pupils and teachers are today celebrating their hard work and dedication after receiving an exceptional set of GCSE results.

Despite the cancellation of exams due to the coronavirus pandemic and the uncertainty surrounding this year’s results day, students at Eden Girls’ Leadership Academy had much to celebrate. The school, which opened in September 2019, is celebrating its first set of GCSE results.

Amongst the many high achieving students at the school was dedicated student council member, Lujzhane Amin. She performed remarkably, achieving eight grade 9s and one grade 8. Lujzhane said: “My parents and the teachers were so supportive; they helped me to achieve these brilliant results. I hope to study medicine in the future and these GCSE grades will really help me!”
The ambition and dedication of Alina Iqbal resulted in the outstanding pupil achieving grade 9s – the highest grade – in seven of her subjects. She also successfully secured one grade 8 and one grade 7. Alina now hopes to study A-levels in Biology, Chemistry and Maths. She said: “I feel so happy! I’m excited and pleased about my results and I’m on the right track to achieve my ambition of studying medicine in the future.”
Another pupil who achieved a fantastic set of results was Rafiah Azhar. Rafiah was delighted after receiving one grade 9, one grade 8 and seven grade 7s in her GCSEs. She plans to continue her studies with A-levels in Biology, Maths and Chemistry. She said: “I’m so happy and I feel I’ve achieved brilliant results and these are a great foundation for my future!”
Maryam Sarwar was another high achieving pupil who performed exceptionally well. Her hard work and determination resulted in her being awarded two grade 9s, four grade 8s and one grade 7. Maryam, who is looking forward to taking A-levels in Psychology, Biology and Chemistry, said: “I’m so glad that all my hard work has paid off!”
Sumiya Choudhury was overjoyed after receiving an impressive set of results. The committed and talented pupil achieved three grade 9s, four grade 8s and two grade 7s. Sumiya, who plans to study A-levels in Art, Psychology and Maths, reflected on her achievements: “I’m over the moon! I’m so grateful to the teachers and my parents for all the support.”
For Deena Zaroo, her determination and positivity towards her studies led to her gaining a remarkable set of results. Deena was awarded grade 8s in three of her subjects as well as five grade 7s and one grade 6. She said: “I’ve worked so hard and am so happy that I’ve achieved these results! It was worth attending all the interventions!” For her next step, Deena hopes to take A-levels in Science.
Hardworking pupil Yasmin Abed also successfully secured a set of the highest grades. Yasmin was thrilled with her results, after achieving one grade 9, three grade 8s and four grade 7s. Yasmin wishes to study A-levels in Maths, Biology and Chemistry. She said: “I’m so relieved that all the hard work has paid off and I’ve got a great start to my A levels!”

Famida Rawoot, Principal at Eden Girls’ Leadership Academy, Birmingham, praised pupils and staff for all their efforts. She said:

“I have felt extremely privileged to be able share in our pupils’ journeys this year. We are incredibly proud of our pupils who continue to aspire to greatness and succeed in spite of the recent challenges. I would like to thank all our parents and teachers for working so hard to support our pupils through such extraordinary times.” We know that our pupils have wonderful futures ahead of them and we look forward to hearing about their future successes.”
